On November 5, 2008, I posted an article titled, Connected Community that can be found in the news archives.  In that article, I stated that the involvement of family is linked to higher levels of student achievement and improved student behavior.  In the next few weeks, we are offering three terrific opportunities for parents.

The first opportunity is the Parents Association Meeting on Friday, January 9.  During this one-hour meeting, we will spend most of our time with Marina Dale, our Middle School Technology Coordinator.   As the Technology Coordinator, she will focus on how technology is regulated and coordinated in the Middle School.  Parents will also be given some time to dialogue about "at-home" rules around technology.   

This meeting on January 9 will also be used as a springboard for a special meeting from 8:30 - 10:30 a.m. on January 21.  That meeting will be facilitated by Joanne Drahnek.  Joanne is a licensed Parent Educator with over 20 years of experience.  Her focus for the meeting will be parenting a Middle School student in today's technological world.

The third opportunity will take place on January 13, 2009.  From 8:30 - 9:30 a.m., we will be joined by Janet Oliver.  As a graduate-level professor of educational assessment, Janet is current with new trends and research in educational assessment.  Her focus will be on the tests that are typically given, how results are interpreted and how a diagnosis is made.
